Welcome to the Department of Neurology!

The Neurology Clinic of the University of Göttingen includes three general wards, a certified stroke unit and an intensive care unit to care for patients affected by the entire spectrum of neurological diseases. In addition it provides the possibility of in-house early rehabilitation.

Our outpatient clinic (or "Poliklinik") is open weekdays from 8:00 to 16:00. In addition, colleagues specialized in selected diseases attend to patients in specific walk-in clinics.

Neurological or neurophysiological assessments are available by appointment.

The department offers a wide range of additional diagnostic tests: extra- and transcranial Doppler-/Duplex sonography, electromyography (EMG), electroencelphalography (EEG), evoked potentials (EP) as well as cerebrospinal fluid tests in the neurochemical laboratory. In close collaboration with the Department of Neuroradiology we provide imaging studies of the nervous system (CT, MRT, angiography), as well as interventional endovascular therapies.
The scientific focus of the department is to improve the understanding of the development of neurological diseases with the goal of identifying important cellular and molecular mechanisms and the development of new therapeutic strategies.

The emphases of the research groups in our department is on neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson's, ALS, Huntington's disease and SCA), CNS trauma and neuroregeneration, ischemia, multiple sclerosis, neuroinfectiology, neuromuscular disorders as well as dementia / prion diseases. All research groups share a special interest in molecular and cellular processes, which encourages close collaborations and networking both within the department and many neuroscientific groups around Göttingen.
